The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) awarded P7.46 million in cash rewards to 31 civilian informants on Monday at its national headquarters in Manila. The tipsters provided critical intelligence that led to successful anti-narcotics operations across the country.

PDEA Director General Moro Virgoso Lazo presided over the ceremony, emphasizing the informants' instrumental role in dismantling illegal drug networks. Individual rewards ranged from P50,000 to P500,000, based on the significance of the information provided.

Recognition Ceremony in Manila

To qualify for rewards, informants must submit tips that directly result in filed cases against drug personalities or confiscation of illegal substances. PDEA requires information to be verifiable and actionable, leading to measurable police operations.

The agency ensures strict anonymity and safety protocols for all informants, protecting their identities from retaliation by criminal elements throughout the process.

Eligibility Criteria for Informants

Among the 31 recipients, five tipsters received the highest individual awards of P500,000 each for leads that led to major drug busts in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces.

Twelve informants earned between P200,000 and P300,000 for information that aided operations in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

The remaining 14 tipsters received amounts ranging from P50,000 to P150,000 for their contributions to smaller-scale but equally important anti-drug operations.

Breakdown of Reward Distribution

Director Lazo noted that without actionable intelligence from community members, law enforcement agencies face significant challenges in identifying and prosecuting high-value targets in the illegal drug trade.

The agency has observed a steady increase in tip submissions since implementing its informant reward program in 2022. Intelligence gathered from informants has contributed to the seizure of over 2.5 metric tons of illegal drugs valued at approximately P1.8 billion in the past year alone.

Significance of Civilian Cooperation in Drug Enforcement

Role of Tipsters in Operations

PDEA has established a dedicated Witness Protection Unit to safeguard informants participating in anti-drug operations. The unit coordinates with local police to ensure tipsters receive adequate security during and after investigations.

The agency also provides relocation assistance and alternative livelihood programs for informants who may face threats due to their cooperation with law enforcement.

Safety Measures for Informants

PDEA announced plans to expand its informant network by establishing additional reporting channels in barangays nationwide. These include confidential hotlines, anonymous online reporting portals, and community liaison programs.

The agency aims to increase the number of active informants by 50 percent by the end of 2025.
