The Light Rail Transit Authority will suspend LRT-1 operations from April 2 to April 5, 2026, to conduct essential preventive maintenance on its aging rail infrastructure. The temporary closure covers the entire Holy Week holiday period, with Maundy Thursday falling on April 2 and Easter Sunday observed on April 5.

"The Holy Week shutdown provides a critical window for our maintenance crews to conduct comprehensive inspections and repairs," an LRTA official stated. "This annual maintenance ensures the safety and reliability of our service for the remainder of the year."

Normal operations will resume on Easter Sunday at 4:30 a.m. First trips will depart at 4:30 a.m. from both terminal stations. On April 1, the last trip from Baclaran station departs at 10:00 p.m. The last trip from Roosevelt station leaves at 10:15 p.m.

LRT-2 and MRT-3 will also suspend operations during the same four-day period. The coordinated effort among railway operators aims to maximize the maintenance window while minimizing disruption to commuters.

The annual Holy Week shutdown allows maintenance crews to address wear and tear on the aging rail system. The LRT-1, which stretches over 20 kilometers from Baclaran in Parañaque to Roosevelt in Quezon City, serves thousands of daily commuters. Preventive maintenance during holiday periods has become standard practice for the rail network.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Railways has yet to announce its Holy Week schedule. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and expect limited public transportation options during the holiday period.
