Unfinished Business Drives Letran's Star
Judiel Nitura has been the driving force behind Letran College's remarkable NCAA Season 101 women's volleyball campaign. The 21-year-old opposite hitter has consistently delivered clutch performances, including a 22-point masterclass against defending champions De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde that kept the Lady Knights' unbeaten streak intact at 10-0.
Redemption Arc After Finals Heartbreak
Last season, Nitura and the Lady Knights suffered a devastating sweep at the hands of Benilde in the championship series. That painful experience has fueled their fire throughout this campaign. "We're not just playing for wins anymore," Nitura shared in a previous interview. "We want to finish what we started."
Veteran Leadership on and Off the Court
Beyond her offensive prowess, Nitura has embraced her role as a mentor to younger teammates. Her work ethic and composure under pressure have set the standard for the squad. Head coach Mayeth Carolino has relied on her veteran presence to guide the team through tight matches and high-pressure situations.
Family Legacy Fuels Championship Dreams
Growing up in a household where sports dominate conversation, Nitura developed her competitive spirit early. Her father, who stands at 6-foot-2, played basketball and maintains interests in badminton and golf. All five of her siblings have pursued athletic endeavors, creating an environment of relentless pursuit of excellence.
Siblings Making Their Own Marks
The Nitura family's athletic achievements span multiple leagues and sports. Brother Cyrus previously suited up for Perpetual ALTAs in NCAA Seasons 98 and 99 before transferring to Emilio Aguinaldo College. Most notably, sister Shaina steered Adamson University to the UAAP Season 86 girls volleyball title, proving that championship DNA runs deep in the family.
From Basketball Courts to Volleyball Arenas
Despite her volleyball success, basketball was Nitura's first love. Her mother initially resisted her athletic pursuits due to concerns about physical injuries. "My mom didn't allow me to play basketball in grade school because she was afraid I'd get hurt," Nitura recalled. "In Grade 5, I was still pushing her to let me play but she still wouldn't let me."
The Final Push for Championship Glory
With the quarterfinals looming, Nitura has positioned herself for a potential Player of the Week three-peat after earning the Collegiate Press Corps' weekly citation twice. Her consistency has been instrumental in securing Letran's twice-to-beat advantage heading into the playoff phase.
Keys to Closing Out Strong
The Lady Knights will need Nitura at her best as they pursue the championship that has eluded them. Her ability to deliver in crucial moments—evidenced by her match-winning block against Benilde—makes her invaluable. The team will rely on her experience and composure as they face stiffer competition in the knockout rounds.
Chasing the Ultimate Prize
For Nitura, this season represents more than individual accolades. It is her opportunity to cement her legacy and deliver the school's first championship in this sport. With her talent, determination, and family support, the stage is set for her to achieve the ultimate collegiate volleyball triumph.
