Max Strus delivered a career-best performance, scoring 24 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 118-111 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
The 27-year-old guard was relentless from the start, pouring in 16 points before halftime and helping the Cavaliers build a comfortable lead they would never relinquish.
"Max was exceptional tonight. He gave us exactly what we needed," Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said.
Donovan Mitchell provided supporting star power, finishing with 25 points and six rebounds. The All-Star guard consistently made plays when the Warriors attempted to claw back into the contest.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Strus became the first player since 1997-98 to accomplish this scoring feat while making at least four three-pointers in a game.
Golden State mounted a furious comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to single digits. With the Warriors sensing momentum, Strus stepped up when it mattered most.
His three-pointer with 54 seconds remaining gave Cleveland a 112-107 cushion and effectively sealed the deal. The shot capped off a magnificent all-around effort that helped the Cavaliers improve their standing in the Eastern Conference.
The victory marks another chapter in the ongoing rivalry between these two storied franchises, both known for their competitive matchups in recent years.
Strus's breakout performance could prove pivotal as the Cavaliers continue their playoff push this season. The team's balanced attack and timely contributions from role players like Strus demonstrate their depth and potential for postseason success.
