The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) will suspend LRT-2 operations starting Maundy Thursday, April 2, until Easter Sunday, April 5, for annual maintenance work. Regular service resumes at 5 a.m. on Monday, April 6. Commuters may travel normally on Holy Wednesday, April 1.
Maintenance crews will conduct comprehensive inspections on trains, tracks, power supply systems, and other critical facilities. The four-day suspension allows workers uninterrupted access to all areas of the railway. This annual work aims to address wear and tear while proactively identifying potential issues.
"The annual maintenance work aims to address wear and tear accumulated throughout the year while proactively identifying potential issues before they affect service," the LRTA said in its advisory.
Maintenance crews will focus on train components and mechanical systems, rail tracks and infrastructure, and power supply and electrical systems. The work ensures safe and efficient operations for the railway's estimated 200,000 daily passengers.
Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and use alternative transportation during the suspension period. Bus and jeepney routes near LRT-2 stations remain operational for public convenience.
The LRT-2 serves three major stations: Recto in Manila, Cubao in Quezon City, and Santolan in Pasig. The railway is a critical component of Metro Manila's public transportation network.
LRTA Administrator Hernani DL. Fe contηθͺε·±η maintenance schedule aligns with international rail safety standards. Regular maintenance intervals help prevent service disruptions and ensure passenger safety throughout the year.
The Holy Week suspension is an annual tradition for the railway. This year marks the third consecutive year of such maintenance during the holiday period.
Commuters seeking updates may contact LRTA's customer service hotline or follow their official social media accounts for real-time announcements regarding service resumption and alternative transport options.
