The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has assured that poll workers in the 2018 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections will be given their honoraria in full on election day.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said in a statement that poll workers would be paid in full in return for their rendered services on May 14.
The honoraria and travel allowances of poll workers will be given either in cash or through bank deposit at the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).
“For certain priority areas, poll workers will be paid in cash. In other places, they will receive their compensation through DBP cash cards,” Jimenez said.
“The payment of their compensation will be made by the election officers of their respective localities,” he furthered.
In compliance with the Election Service Reform Act (Republic Act No. 10756), a Chairperson of the Electoral Boards should receive an honorarium of PhP 6,000, while Members of Electoral Boards and Department of Education Supervisor Officials should be given PhP 5,000 and PhP 4,000 respectively. Those who will work as support staff should receive PhP 2,000 each.
Poll workers will also be given a travel allowance of PhP 1,000 each.
Both the honoraria and travel allowances will be subject to a 5-percent withholding tax, as dictated by the Bureau of Internal Revenue Ruling No. 003-08 dated April 14, 2018.
