President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the transfer of the National Food Authority (NFA) under the Department of Agriculture, the Palace has disclosed earlier this week.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the decision was made during the NFA Council Meeting last Monday, April 16.
Aside from the NFA, the Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority and the Philippine Coconut Authority were also declared attached agencies of the Department of Agriculture.
Roque also mentioned about the removal request of the Development Bank of the Philippines from the council, with the Department of Social Welfare and Development taking its place.
“The NFA Council will not be abolished,” Roque said, denying the earlier statement of Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol that Duterte wants the abolishment of the 18-member council.
In line with the rice importation, Roque confirmed the approval of the acquisition of 250,000 metric tons of rice via government-to-government mode, intended to boost rice stocks.
“Subsequent importation is to be done by G2Por auction and importation will be implemented/supervised by the Executive Council Committee headed by the Office of the President,” he added.
