The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) has been mandated by President Rodrigo Duterte to communicate government programs and services to the population in order for the public to be more aware of them.
Duterte has particularly directed Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar to assess the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) offices across the country and ensure that the government is doing its job to let the public know about the programs.
“So iyon ang ating assignment ngayon for the next nine months ay 80% of my time will be spent in the provinces,” he added.
As the head of the government’s communication arm, Andanar has supervision over PIA, the government’s information agency. Built through an executive order by then President Corazon Aquino, the PIA has 16 regional offices and 78 provincial information centers.
