Jobs will be given to workers of fire-hit NCCC Mall

A total of 2,925 workers of the fire-hit NCCC Mall in Davao City on December 23, 2017 will be placed under DOLE’s emergency employment program, where they will be provided jobs for 30 days.

DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III said this program has P30-million funding that can pay the P340 daily wage.

The NCCC Mall fire, which started at a furniture store on the third floor, killed a total of 38 people mostly workers of US-based call center Research Now SSI. The call center’s office was at the topmost floor of the 4-storey shopping center. Fire officials said the incident was sparked by an electrical short circuit.

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), which has authority to inspect safety and employment standards in economic zones, has suspended the call center’s business registration, as well as the economic zone registration of the NCCC Mall.
