The Executive Order (EO) aiming to stop the end-of-contract scheme or “endo” might be decided in time for the celebration of the Labor Day tomorrow, May 1.
According to Malacañang, President Rodrigo Duterte’s final decision regarding this matter depends on the outcome of his meeting with Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.
“I can confirm that there might be an EO that may or may not be signed depending on their meeting tonight,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement.
The Palace has earlier announced that Duterte will prioritize the signing of the tenure bill over the signing of the EO against the short-term employment, an issue which he has given to the Congress to resolve.
Among Duterte’s Labor Day activities include attening the said holiday’s commemoration at the “Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan” fair in Cebu.
Asked about the President’s gift to Filipino workers, Roque said that Duterte has been generous in providing them good news.
“First time, libreng tuition sa state universities and colleges; libreng patubig; libreng — ang dami niyan na ngayon lang binibigay ni Presidente. Pero mamayang hapon po ay magpupulong si Secretary Bello at saka si Presidente for whatever may be released tomorrow in Cebu,” he added.
