Filipino workers are entitled to a free MRT-3 ride on May 1 as a Labor Day treat from the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The DOTr finalized the said move after Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III requested for the provision of free rides to workers both in the public and private sectors in observance of the Labor Day next week.
“General Manager Rodolfo Garcia has fully supported our request. All public and private workers are allowed to ride the MRT-3 for free from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 1 upon presentation of their company identification cards,” Bello said in a statement.
Bello also added that workers will be given magnetic cards that will be used for the free ride.
Upon arriving at their respective destinations, workers will have to surrender the said magnetic ticket at drop boxes found at the MRT service gate.
MRT-3 stations include North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Kamuning, Cubao, and Santolan-Annapolis in Quezon City; Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City; Shaw Boulevard and Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong City; Guadalupe, Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Ayala Avenue, and Magallanes Avenue in Makati City; and Taft Avenue in Pasay City.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is slated to commemorate the Labor Day through the opening of 80,000 job vacancies via 53 simultaneous Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Job and Business Fairs across the whole Philippines.
On May 2, DOLE in collaboration with the National Anti-Poverty Commission will extend the celebration of the said special holiday for workers through the Labor Day for the Informal Sector Workers event as a way of recognizing the said group’s valuable contribution to the informal economy.
