Galing Pook Foundation Execuive Director Eddie Dorotan has dismissed the possible participation of narco-politicians in the upcoming barangay elections since most barangays are not drug-infested.
“There’s a lot of barangays that are drug free. So I don’t believe that there are narco-politicians in this coming barangay election” Dorotan said.
The executive also furthered that aside from barangays, majority of the villages in the country are also drug-free.
“I don’t believe the majority of 42,000 barangays are drug-infested. Maybe these problems are located in the urban areas. In the provinces, there are barangays that are drug-free,” he explained.
President Rodrigo Duterte, meanwhile, assured that the government’s ongoing campaign against drugs will be further intensified in case village officials involved in the legal activity would be elected.
For Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabl, the best option would be to file cases against drug-involved elected officials.
“By filing cases, you send a signal that you want to rid barangay officials with links to drugs,” he said.
