Taiwanese community in PH provides P600K to family of OFW killed in Taiwan quake

A monetary donation amounting to PhP 600,000 collected by the Taiwanese community in the Philippines has been donated to the family of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Melody Alabano Castro on Tuesday at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO).

Castro was the OFW who died during the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck popular tourist sity Hualien in Taiwan on February 6.

The donation was personally handed by TECO Representative Dr. Gary Song-Huann Lin.

TECO said that the additional donation mirrors Taiwan’s compassion, care, and love toward OFWs in Taiwan.

An amount of PhP 3.2 million was initially pooled from the Taiwan government funds, insurance claims, and Taiwanese donation was already given to Castro’s family as consolation, compensation, and compassion. This is based on regulations toward the foreign workers and residents in the said foreign country.

An official of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office has been designated to handle the processing of required procedures for the allocation of the funding.
