“They have chosen a very strong ruler.”
This was what Virginia State Senator and former Pentagon head lawyer Richard Black has to say about President Rodrigo Duterte in an interview with Executive Intelligence Review (EIR) Asia expert Mike Billington, saying that the Americans and other nations should not intervene and respect the Filipino culture because Filipinos know more of what their country needs.
Black, who was also a former chief in the criminal law division in the Pentagon remarked that the Americans are known for their tendency of imposing their “higher intellect” on other nationalities.
According to the Senator, Duterte, who was once a mayor in Davao, brought law and order in the said city by being ruthless to criminals.
“The people of the Philippines elected Rodrigo Duterte since they wanted law and order, and he gave it to them,” Black added.
Black also said that the United States should get inspiration from the Philippines in dealing with drugs, relating how the US had the same objective of eradicating illegal drug use which was immediately opposed by some politicians, resulting to a worse drug situation.
Meanhwile, in light with the declaration of Duterte about the separation of the Philippines from the US, Black said that the US is to blame for not handling the situation in a more sensitive fashion.
“It would be a shame to lose our alliance with the Philippines,” Black stated.
