Let’s work together to fight fake news – Andanar

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar called on public information officers and communicators to join his office in combating disinformation and misinformation, as well as fake news.

“Let’s work together to fight fake news,” Andanar said before an estimated 1,600 participants from 16 regions during the 1st National Information Convention (NIC).

“We are the hope of the government. Let’s go down to the grassroots and talk to the people when there are disinformation against your local governments and agencies,”Andanar said.

According to Andanar, the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) will give out full support to public communicators in their efforts to bring truthful and factual information about the government’s projects, so that even ordinary people would be aware of these programs.

“We will fight this (disinformation). The PCOO is behind you. We will help you and will not leave you,” the secretary said.

The event also saw the unveiling of the Du30 App, a media platform where everyone can browse and learn more about the government’s programs and activities. This will boost information dissemination among Filipinos as there’s an estimated 62 million active mobile users in the Philippines.

“This is our gift to our countrymen who are looking for a platform where we all can download, share information and news. This application will help us,” Andanar said.
