Gov’t considers Oman, Bahrain as alternative destination for OFWs

The government is eyeing Oman and Bahrain as alternative destinations for overseas Filipino workers, especially those repatriated from Kuwait.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the two countries are “more humane” host nations for OFWs. The statement follows President Duterte’s decision to send home all distressed Filipinos from Kuwait after an incident with a dead Filipina found insidea a freezer in the Gulf State.

PRRD (President Rodrigo Roa Duterte) has given priority to the right to life of our OFWs and will not allow further inhumane treatment to be inflicted on our OFW’s in Kuwait,” Roque said in a statement.

“Repatriated workers will receive financial assistance from OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) and may be deployed to more humane countries such as Oman and Bahrain,” he added.
