The Philippine flag was honored and raised in Washington D.C and Australia to join the commemoration of Malolos City’s 119th celebration of the First Philippine Republic Day.
The said celebration is related to the historic event on January 23, 1899 that gave birth to the pronouncement of our constitution, making the Philippines the first republic in Asia.
According to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Marjorie Jalosjos, the commemoration is also done to celebrate our country’s freedom for Spain.
The United States and Australia were some of the countries that join the Philippines in recognizing Republic Day, which according to Malolos Mayor Christian Natividad, continues to be an event for Bulacan residents despite its national relevance.
“We celebrate the Chinese New Year but we have yet to celebrate as a nation the day when we crafted all the laws that created the First Republic,” Natividad said.
