Cayetano assures the public on the speeding up of passport appointments waiting time

Recently, new applications and renewals of Philippine passports have created a growing public outrage due to limited number of online schedule slots and slow processes. Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano has insisted that his department is doing everything to speed up the waiting time for passport appointments.

The new passports that were issues starting January 03, 2018 have 10-year validity. The Republic Act No. 10928 or Act Extending the Validity of Philippine Passports, stated that only applicants 18 years old above will be provided with a 10-year valid passport, those below 18 years old will be issued with five-year validity.

The passports that were issued prior to January 01, 2018 with a validity of five years will remain valid until expiration. Both the 10-year and 5-year passports will hold the same designs, security features, and the number of pages. Furthermore, there is no change in the passport application fees.
